Meeting Recap January 23, 2008

Recap of the General Membership Meeting, January 23, 2008.

The IHA meeting was attended by 24 people on Wednesday the 23rd of January at the Indepencence Civic Center. Tom Gentile, (216) 215-1845, mailto:wndomn@sbcglobal.net of MDI Inc., shared his considerable knowledge of residential window/door technology and also the economic and comfort impact on heating and cooling the home. This knowledge included an overview of the constantly improving technology of glass, reasoning behind the number of panes, gases used within modern windows, beneficial impact on insulation value, lowered operating costs, etc. The general impression is that a house built earlier than the 1970 time frame could benefit substantially via investment in modern window and door technology. The discussion was further supported by Frank Rini of Rinello Builders, (216) 524-8288, www.rinellobuilders.com.

The information shared was interesting and informative. Both Tom and Frank offered their help as a future resource.
The presentation did stimulate some interesting 'Green' related dialogue and some opportunities for IHA to explore. Specifically:
1.) The Independence Building Department has information on government low interest loans offered when used for the purchase of energy saving home improvements (windows, doors, etc.) Stipulations include that the home must have a value no greater than 250K$. Mike Zubic, (216) 447-0807, mailto:zubic4@sbcglobal.net, will obtain further information.
2.) Mike Zubic and Kurt Hill, (216) 524-4852, mailto:jkurt_0@hotmail.com formed an informal committee to research thermal imaging cameras. The ultimate goal is to interest the city in potentially funding or at least supporting a community-wide low cost effort to collect thermal images of housing and suggest solutions for reducing heating and cooling bills.

Elections were held for the President, Treasurer and Secretary positions. The results were unequivocally supportive of the new officers: President, Steve Kelley; Treasurer, Jim Fletcher; and the new Secretary, Mike Zubic.

Lastly, a good time was had by all and complimented by coffee and cookies.

Mike Zubic, SecretaryRespectfully submitted, Mike Zubic
