History and Overview of the Association

Wednesday September 27, 2006 - Kurt Hill

Several years ago, a number of residents were expressing dismay at the apparent lack of unbiased information on issues relating to various city programs, practices and procedures. The community worked, without question, but as the age of communications began to reach every age level, there was a natural tendency to expect more and more information relating to issues facing the electorate.

It was no longer sufficient to have a respected person iterate the correct position to take and it was more and more difficult to determine how much of what we were hearing was fact and how much was opinion.

It was in this environment that several of us began discussing the old Independence Homeowners-Citizens Association and wondering what had become of it. Over thirty years ago, the group was very active and visible on various public issues, and to many, the membership seemed to be composed of people of like opinions. As we looked into the organization we learned that it was cancelled by the State on December 24, 1990 for failure to file a statement of continuing existence1.

We spent a considerable amount of time discussing whether or not it would be a good idea to re-incorporate the group through reinstatement. It was decided that the confusion and baggage that had grown around the group in it’s waning years would be difficult to overcome and we decided to incorporate the Independence Homeowners Association as a fresh new entity with the simple mission of providing the best factual information we could to the residents of Independence. Everyone agreed that the most important thing we could do would be to bring objective, factual and balanced information to the electorate. We were incorporated on February 7, 20052.

Because we are a diverse group in it’s infancy, each of us had other things going and it wasn’t until this Spring that we started getting organized and no sooner than that occurred a resident, who had been using the defunct Homeowners-Citizens name unilaterally, decided to file for reinstatement of the name3 June 30,2006. The individual apparently then appointed himself the Domestic Agent for the new organization4.

We plan to move forward in positive path to bring you the best, most current and factual information available. We will identify our sources, provide backup for those who want to check facts and generally be a credit to the community. We hope to not spend precious resources bickering with other organizations.

Why not join us and be a part of this?
